The Beginning of the Gospel | Mark 1:1-8
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

The book of Mark is not a biography but a witness document that gives us a summary of the person and work of Jesus Christ. It’s the first gospel. Mark’s gospel is not just another mythological hero story, but it is the story of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Mark does not begin with a genealogy or a birth narrative but jumps right in. He begins by intentionally introducing us to John who would introduce us to Jesus. By understanding John’s life and ministry, we get a better understanding of who Jesus is. Mark begins the gospel story with a strange man out in the wilderness named John whose mission was to tell everybody about somebody who came to save anybody.
