Helping People Love Jesus | John 1:35-51
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

Can you make someone fall in love? You really can’t. In the movie Aladdin, Genie had three rules: No taking life, no bring people back from the dead, and no making anyone fall in love. According to the theological magazine, Cosmopolitan, there are 6 scientfically proven things you can do to increase your changes of having someone fall in love with you: 1) Maintain eye contact: Harvard study found that couples who are really in love look at each other while they are talking 75% of the time. 2) Be a good listener. 3) Make them feel appreciated and special: do and say things. 4) Smile a lot around them: be positive. 5) Show vulnerability: share your feelings. 6) Embrace what the other person is most passionate about: find common interests. The article maintains that there is not proven way to guarantee it, only to increase your chances. How do you make someone fall in love with Jesus? You can’t make anyone fall in love with Jesus, but you can set them up on as many dates as possible. For people to fall in love with Jesus, they need to know him and they must experience for themselves His love for them.

In John’s gospel, we see the first disciples of Jesus engage family and friends with the good news of Jesus. What they had received, they shared. They were not a cul-de-sac but a conduit. Why? Because Jesus is too good not to share. Our mission is to help people love Jesus to live for Him every day. In John 1, we learn how we can help people love Jesus by pointing and bringing people to Jesus and leaving the rest to Him.
