When God Makes You Rest | 1 Kings 19:1-14
The purpose of the Sabbath is to refuel our souls and reorient our hearts and minds in and on Jesus. God wants us to find a rhythm of work and rest so that we are able to fulfill His purposes and listen to His voice. I’ve found that if we do not take time to rest and Sabbath, then God will make us rest. Some of you have personally experienced moments where God made you rest, by removing things in your life, to reorient your heart and mind on Him. This is often true in our lives, after great spiritual highs there tends to be great spiritual lows, a moment of failure or temptation. In 1 Kings, God used the lowest moment in Elijah’s life to teach him about the idols of his heart. What we see is that God ruthlessly allows our hearts to be exposed so that His relentless grace can restore us and reorient our hearts to see that He is God, He is Good, and He is all that we need.
