Jesus is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever | Hebrews 13:5-9
Thomas Eugene Keys III   -

We live in a world and society where everything around us is changing. Not only is it changing, but it’s changing rapidly.

At the age of 33, I’m already starting to see and feel change around me. The first thing I think of is technology. I still remember my first RAZR flip phone, and I was astounded that my phone actually had a camera. When I had that front camera, I thought it was game over! Now, with the invention of Portrait mode on iPhone, I feel like a photographer (I’m not). Another example is slang. For example, Millennials say, “You Delivered”, while Gen Z says,“You ate and left no crumbs.” Things around us change, but we have our confidence and hope in a Savior who never changes.

We’ve been going through the book of Hebrews and have learned that Jesus is a better Word, King, Priest, and Savior. However, none of those things matter if God changes with the times. Jesus is immutable, a fancy word for never changing or always the same. In this 13th Chapter of Hebrews, the author is encouraging the church that has faced persecution and distress. He encourages them to flee from greed and heresy, and in the middle, he leaves a definitive statement that believers can constantly hold fast to in a changing world. We can have unwavering hope and trust in Jesus Christ. Because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever more, we have no reason to doubt His divinity, trust in our fallen identity, or fear our eternity.
