Why Can’t I See God? | Romans 1:18-25
Have you ever doubted the existence of God? If we are honest, we all have. According to Pew Research, approximately 28% identify as religiously unaffiliated with 5% being atheist and 6% agnostic. Over the past decade or so, there has been a small surge in atheism in the US. The percentage of self-identified atheists has doubled over the past decade. Generation Z, 6% of the entire adult population, (1999-2015) 13% claim to be atheist and 37% believe it is not possible to know for sure that God is real. With rise of social media consumption from YouTube and TikTok, younger people are getting answers to their God question from influencers who often quote people like renowned scientists and atheists Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Stephen Hawkins and Christopher Hitchens. As a kid, I grew up watching Bill Nye the science guy; he is an atheist. Sadly, many young people leave the church, ill-equipped for what they will experience in college from a professor whose goal is to deconstruct the faith of many of their students and will fall away from their faith altogether. Some of you have doubts and questions about God’s existence; some have children or grandchildren or friends who constantly question your faith. Warning: I am not a scientist; I am not a philosopher; I am a preacher, and I can’t answer every question or objection but I want to present how you can have faith in God as revealed in the Bible.
Paul, one of the smartest men in history, wrote to a group of believers in Rome who were living in very confusing times. He writes one of the best theological books in history. He starts by giving them arguments for God’s existence and our lack of excuses for rejecting Him. Romans 1 gives us both clues for God’s existence and the causes for unbelief.
