The Authority of Jesus | Mark 1:21-45
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

How many of you struggle with authority? Most people do. That little rebel inside of all of us finds its roots in the garden of Eden. We don’t want to be told what to do. When it comes to Jesus, there is a fear in submitting to His authority. People do not mind admiring him as a good person or teacher, but they do not want to submit to Him as Lord of their lives. People try to dumb down his authority acting like we give him authority. You hear words like, “accept Jesus into your heart, make Him your Lord, give him authority over your life.” Jesus doesn’t need us to give him authority over anything, He already has it. There is not one square inch of the universe that Jesus does not have full authority over. Yet, we do not need to be afraid because we can trust that He is good.

If the book of Mark were a movie, it would be an action thriller. Mark moves quickly from the seashore to the synagogue on a Sabbath day and gives us a snapshot of a typical day in the life of Jesus. These stories in Jesus’ ministry prove that He has complete and compassionate authority over everything.
