Breaking Free from the Lies of the Enemy | 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

Are you good at detecting lies? We live in a world full of lies and disinformation. Disinformation is false information which is intended to mislead and deceive people. Garry Kasparov said, “The point of modern propaganda isn’t only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.” If they can get you to believe their lie, then they can manipulate you. The same is true in the spiritual world; we have an enemy who is trying to manipulate us and destroy our lives by telling us lies.

2 Corinthians was written by Paul to believers living in an affluent, multicultural, metropolitan city. The purpose of the letter is to defend his ministry against false teachers who attacked it. They were deliberately telling lies about him in order to deceive the people to follow them, not him. Chapter 10 is Paul’s personal plea for all believers to not be deceived and fall for the lies of the enemy. In doing so, he teaches us the path to freedom and victory over the lies of the enemy. Over 40 times in the New Testament, we are warned about deception. A lot of spiritual warfare is breaking through the lies and deception that stand in the way of the truth. How do we do that? Paul tells us that we must wage war, destroy strongholds, and take prisoners.
