A Gospel Saturated Church | Acts 2:22-24: 36-41
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

When you hear the word “saturated” what comes to your mind? I think of fat. Saturated fat is found in  everything that tastes good: cake, biscuits, gravy, butter, cheese, bacon, Chick-fil-a, ice cream and donuts. Saturated fat is all saturated in those yummy things. Have you ever had a fresh Boston Creme donut? Heavenly: it is chocolate, sugar, crème on the inside, it melts in your mouth. The word saturated means to be thoroughly soaked or to hold as much moisture as can be absorbed. When you run outside in the Florida heat, your clothes will become saturated with sweat. When you take a foam sponge and saturate it in soapy water to wash your truck or car. The church is to be saturated with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are to be soaked in the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to scripture, was buried and three days later rose from the dead. Unfortunately, in a lot of churches, the gospel is missing. Not that we don’t know the facts or the story, but that the truths of the gospel do not saturate our entire lives: how we relate to God, ourselves, and others. There is a difference between knowing that Boston Creme donuts are good and having that donut come alive in your mouth. For us to “be the church” we must be Spirit Empowered, and Gospel Saturated every day.

Acts 2 takes place on the day of Pentecost. It was one of the big 3 Jewish feasts, the harvest festival, and people from all over the world came to Jerusalem for fun and celebration. It was a party like Mardi Gras or  Octoberfest. Jesus  took the party to the next level by sending the Holy Spirit to empower His church to continue the mission of reaching the world with the good news of God’s salvation for all people. A gospel saturated church is filled with broken people who have been radically saved by Jesus and want to share that good news with other broken people.
