Let the Peoples Praise You, O God | Psalm 67
The Raiders and the Patriots were battling it out for a place in the AFC Championship Game, and they played in a heavy blizzard. The field was covered in inches of snow. Players were sliding on slick field, and passes were bring dropped because the ball felt like a rock. The conditions were so bad they had to stop play several times to plow the yard lines so that the players could see the markers. The two goliath teams battled back and forth constantly changing leads eventually the patriots would prevail by a field goal in overtime. The final score 16-13. But the thing that caught my attention most, wasn’t the game. Although the retelling was incredibly masterful. There was a moment when the camera man panned across the crowd and stopped on rabid fans who decided the best way to support their team was by going shirtless. These guys were crazy. Shirtless in subzero degree weather in a blizzard. What were these people thinking? They must have been freezing, and to top it all off, they all had dad bods. But they didn’t care what people thought. They were obsessed with their team, and they wanted to let the world to know they were Patriots fans.
That’s what worship looks like. When something grabs a hold of your heart, you have to respond at times with what may seem like the craziest acts of devotion. I learned that the average cost of tickets for this game was around 9,852 USD in 2002! These guys spent almost 10K to go and freeze and look like wackos to support their team. And they loved every minute of it. That’s what worship looks like. When something grabs a hold of your heart, you have to respond at times with what may seem like the craziest acts of devotion. The truth is only God is worthy of our worship! And our God, according to verse 4, judges equally, righteously and fairly is worthy of our praise! God is the One who guides and rules over the nations of the earth. Only God has the power to rule absolutely and will make every right decision in accordance with His perfect will.
