The Deliverance | Genesis 50:15-26
How many of you have ever been in another country when war broke out, missiles were flying, and you were doing everything you could to get you, your family and 50 other people out? That was how my week was. When we arrived in Israel last Tuesday, I never would have dreamed that I would have stayed up multiple nights to figure out a way to get our group out of the country. Multiple flights were being canceled, there was a threat for the airport and the Jordanian border being closed and there were air raid sirens going on. But the good news is that by God’s grace, we got out and got home only three hours later than we had originally planned. To that I say, “Only God!” As I look back on that trip, as unnerving as certain moments were, it was one of the greatest trips (adventures) I have ever been on. It was through the difficulty and the uncertainty in those hours that I will cherish because it has grown my trust in God more.
From Genesis 37 to 50, we have examined the life of Joseph who God used to save his family and ultimately point us to Jesus who will save the world. The theology term we have studied is the word: Providence. Providence means that God, our heavenly Father, is working in and through all things by His wisdom and power for the good of His people and the glory of His name. The question we asked was: “What would our lives look like if we truly believed that God’s dream for our lives was better than our dreams, God’s plan was better than our plan, and God’s timing is better than our timing? What if we truly believed that God is with us and for us, would it change how we live our daily lives?” The story of Joseph calls us to trust that God’s got this because His good providence guarantees His promises.
