Trusting God in the Day of Trouble | Psalm 20
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

We knew that a hurricane was coming, but most of us thought it was not going to hit us here. The problem with hurricanes, as one person put it, is that it is like “being stalked by a tortoise.” Then we all hunkered down for Ian while the winds, waves and rain changed people’s lives. The storm surge and flooding in Collier County was unprecedented. The wind and flood damage in Lee and Charlotte counties was devastating and will take months and years to recover. Now, we are all trying to clean up, pray for electricity, internet, and cell services to be restored in our area and be the church in our community and help those in need. But it’s been a roller coast of emotions over the past week and outside of fear, the other great emotion has been stress.

The Psalms help us process our emotions and our circumstances with God in mind. Psalm 20 was written by King David and was often used before a great battle. It was a rally cry for God’s people during crisis. The psalm is divided in two sections; the first section is David’s prayer for others (you) and the second section is David preaching to himself (I). When we go through days of trouble, we can trust God by reminding others of the goodness of God and reassuring
ourselves of the gospel of God
