Who Then is This | Mark 4:35-41
Dr. Alan Brumback   -

How many of you struggle with worry and fear? If we are honest, we all do at times. We live in anxious days and we all have different storms that come into our lives. We are constantly in one of three categories: we are in a storm, coming out of a storm or heading into one. The question is, “when the storms of life hit, where do you turn to and who do you trust in?” The church answer is Jesus, but it is often, that the storms of life reveal who Jesus really is to us. In the storms of life, we see what we really believe about Jesus and what we really trust in.

Mark is moving from a sampling of Jesus’ parables to a new section centered around the miracles of Jesus and how people responded to them. Jesus did not just do miracles for the sake of doing miracles but to teach us about who He is and what His Kingdom is like. They revealed and authenticated Jesus’ identity, heart, message, and mission. Each miracle or sign from Jesus was saying, “The King and the Kingdom have arrived.” Each miracle was a call, not just to believe in miracles, but to trust in Jesus. Worry and fear come into our lives when we do not turn to the power of Jesus over the storm, or trust in the love of Jesus for us in the middle of the storm.
